Hyderabad-Based Startup GrabOn Giving Groupon A Run for Their Money

Whether you are looking for discount on Nike shoes or want cash-back from AXIS bank, GrabOn has coupons in every category to make your online shopping experience more memorable and personalize than ever. In just 2 years, they have succeeded quite well in conquering online coupons market in India and giving Groupon, CouponDunia and many more coupon sites a run for their money.

Even though Groupon is doing business in 500+ markets worldwide, they are experiencing stiff competition in India from local players. Based in Hyderabad, GrabOn is the brainchild of Landmark IT Solutions (LMIT) and presently operating in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. It is founded by Ashok Reddy and presently, they are considered among top five coupons sites in India.

GrabOn was started in July 2013 with the aim of providing rich user experience for customers visiting their platform in search of coupons and deals.  Regarding their platform, Ashok said, “GrabOn’s USP is clean with simple UI, where user-friendly product deals and coupons are placed in an apple pie order.”

They are working with hundreds of online retailers such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm,  Uber,  American Swan,  Amazon India, Mobikwik,  AskMeBazaar,  Foodpanda,  Zoom Car,  Savaari,  Jabong,  etc. They have incredible deals across seven categories – fashion, food, travel, electronics, furniture, baby care, and banking. They even aggregate coupons in Mobile/DTH and entertainment sector.

Speaking about the Groupon’s competiton, He says, “ Because there are many players in the game, including Groupon, we’re taking the beginning of the idea in an unconventional way to competing with already existing biggies. Our strength is innovation and fresh thinking. We’re also quite confident that our fresh website features and smart tools like the “shopping savings calculator” will make a big difference.”

As of now, GrabOn is receiving 3 lakh unique visitors and 7 lakh page views to their website. They even have 15 lakh+ email subscribers receiving coupon alerts directly in their inbox. They are clearly dominating search results in Google for many coupon-based keywords. However, Ashok is unmoved by the sheer number of traffic coming to their website, as he says, “Our focus is not to get traffic but to help people avail special offers that they are looking from their favorite merchants.”

To serve the ever-growing smartphone users in our country, GrabOn is planning to develop mobile application so that their customers receive push notification about the latest deals, offers and coupons on the go.

GrabOn has partnered with 2K+ merchants for providing deals and discounts to their customers, which in turn saves their customers tens of thousands of rupees every month. GrabOn also launched India’s first shopping savings calculator in September 2014, which provides amazing coupon deals once you enter all your monthly expenses. It even provides approx. amount of money you could save with their deals.

GrabOn garner revenues through affiliate commissions from all their registered merchants.  Regarding the challenges in this sector, Ashok says, “There are a few challenges faced by any coupons/deals service platform in India. Apart from giant affiliates like Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal, there are not many online retailers who’ve got their own affiliate platform. So here comes one of the biggest challenges — retailers who have opportunities to explore the affiliate market but are not able to start.”

When asked about any advice to emerging entrepreneurs, Ashok says, “Always try to crank up innovation machine, and we believe that this will ultimately lead to define your business model on a bigger picture.”

To stay competent in the already-crowded industry, GrabOn has innovated many smart tools such as shopping calculator and many other. In addition, they are also constantly building their merchant base by tying up with big retailers and local merchants.
